According to the Teacher's Handbook, the following is practiced:
'We believe that each child is unique, with individual abilities, experiences and needs. Parents have chosen to send their children to St. Patrick's School and we have accepted the obligation to help them to educate and form the characters of these children. Is is the goal of St. Patrick's School and its faculty to develop in each child an understanding of his responsibility to develop to the fullest his God-given talents and make constructive use of them for the betterment of society.
Because of this belief, the daily educational thrust of the school takes on the three fold mission as expressed in the Bishops Pastoral:
First, that each teacher proclaim the message of Salvation daily through formal religion classes, and by a permeating atmosphere of this message in the teaching of other academic disciplines;
Second, that each teacher by word and example show active interest in the life of the Church and,
Third, that each teacher enable students to perform works of service for the good of mankind.
The Pastor is the ex officio chief administrator of the total parish educational program.
The principal is the administrative head of the school and is responsible for the effective operation of the school as an educational institution within the total parish educational program. The immediate direction of the school and its instructional program rests with the principal.
The teacher is a highly skilled professional person who works in close collaboration with his/her principal so that he/she may effectively fulfill the various roles he/she must assume during the course of the teaching day. The importance of the role of teachers was stressed by Pope Pius XI when he wrote in his encyclical on the Christian education of youth, "Perfect schools are the result not so much of good methods as good teachers, teachers who are thoroughly prepared and well grounded in their faith and in the matter they have to teach."
To educate our children according to Christian principles they must be taught to look beyond the barriers of economic, racial and ethnic differences in order to understand and appreciate the common needs of fellow human beings.
